Sustainably is becoming increasingly popular and this means that opportunities are also opening up to shopping streets. Cooperation between businesses means that collective smart solutions in shopping streets can make a larger contribution to a city’s environmental objectives. It is also interesting for municipalities and shopping street managers to introduce smart solutions outside (on the street itself). They can also encourage business owners to work together to realise savings. For example, collective procuring can often be beneficial. Several shopping streets have already made significant improvements, see how they went about it.
The following step-by-step plan details how a joint approach can be set up. A prerequisite for a successful joint approach is that one person is appointed to coordinate and drive the initiative throughout the entire project. If you would like to arrange an exploratory talk, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
1) Create an overview of all involved parties and stakeholders in the street, such as business owners, shopping street managers, municipal services, waste management services and parties concerned with infrastructure) and enter into joint consultation. Objective: to gain insight into the current situation and possibilities in the street, collect information about the street (e.g. energy usage), determine a vision for the street and the common interest.
2) Create a group of ambassadors, comprised of business owners who are enthusiastic about the project. Objective: generate involvement and ownership of the initiative. Enthusiasm is infectious.
3) Work with the group to determine the points of interest and requirements inside shops and for public spaces outside. Objective: determine the focus of solutions and implementation.
4) Implement solutions. Objective: save energy and money, improve the shops and customer experience in general.
